A Heap of Anime News Dropped During the Festive Season

The Yuletide season present a plethora of pastimes much better than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, indulging in delicious food, and using meditation skills to refrain from yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you were able to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy developments came out during the holidays, and if you missed any, here is a summary of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the most shocking revelation, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the main art for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, by now, they could be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio renowned for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not been disclosed yet.
